MODAK, DURVA?
WE GOT YOU ENLIGHTENED

Why does Lord Ganesha love Modak?

From the stories of mythology, Lord Shiva once visited Anusuya, the wife of an ancient Rishi named Atri, at their home. Lord Shiva was hungry and asked to be served food at the earliest. Anusuya, however, said that she would serve Lord Shiva only once Bal Ganesha’s hunger had been satiated. Bal Ganesha ate a wide array of delicacies but couldn't feel full and satisfied.  Upon realising there is no food left to serve, Anusuya served Bal Ganesha & Lord Shiva, a small dumpling of sweet. Ganesha let out a loud burp indicating that his hunger is satisfied and feels full. Ganesha's mother when learnt that the sweet piece was called Modak, she expressed her wish that Lord Ganesha's devotee must offer him Modaks and seek his blessings.

Why Ganesha is offered Durva?

Durva is a kind of grass consisting of 3 blades, this grass has a cooling and healing effect on the body. According to mythology, Ganesha once suffered from a severe burning sensation after being cursed by a celestial woman, whose marriage proposal was rejected by him. nothing could calm down the agony and pain so Ganesha, placed 21 strands of Durva on his head and he got an instant relief. To seek his divine blessings and to keep him cool at all times, Durva is offered to Ganesha.
